- Savannah - Patricia Knox Ward, 79, of Savannah, GA died October 19, 2009 at Habersham House, Savannah, GA. She was the wife of the late Donald E. Ward.

Born in Olympia, WA Nov. 27, 1929, she was the daughter of Thelma O. Knox and the late Stanley K. Knox. She was a graduate of the University of Washington where she received her teaching degree.

As a young woman growing up on Puget Sound, she enjoyed a multitude of water sports, especially water skiing. She became an avid snow skier while raising her children in New England, and taught skiing for a number of years at local MA ski hills. Later in life she became a golfer, a sport she enjoyed while living at The Landings. Among her other talents, she spent time studying landscape painting and taking part in local crafts groups.

She primarily taught first grade at the Pike School, Andover, MA, the Concord MA public schools, and the Harvard, MA public schools before retiring to The Landings in Savannah, GA. After retiring, she mentored and tutored students in the Savannah, GA area including at the Bethesda Home for Boys.

Besides her lifelong passion for guiding and instructing children, she enjoyed volunteering her time with, among other groups, the 4-H and, more recently, the Olympic sailing competition when the Summer Olympics were held in Georgia.

She is survived by her mother, Thelma O. Knox of Olympia, WA, and her two brothers, Bill Knox of Vashon Island and Steve Knox of Portland, OR as well as her three children: Deborah A. Stevens of Hampton, NH, Brooks Stevens and his wife, Susan and two grandchildren of Bozeman, MT, Mark H. Stevens of Beaufort, NC, and her stepson, Eugene C. Ward and his wife, Mary Lou of Hollis, NH.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 7 at the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church, 54 Diamond Causeway, Savannah, GA 31411-1102.
